FAQs

  • Prior to your first session, I will send you directions to my office as well as paperwork to fill out and bring with you to your appointment. Plan to arrive 5-10 minutes early to give yourself time to find the correct building and I will come out to get you at the time of your appointment. We will begin by going over the necessary paperwork and I will answer any questions you might have. After that, we will spend the majority of the session discussing what has been going on leading up to you seeking therapy. I will also want to know some background information about your family, etc. in order to have the most holistic view of who you are and how you came to be who/where you are today. We will end the session by discussing goals for therapy and making sure we feel like a good fit; if it feels like a good match we will often go ahead and schedule our next appointment.

  • This depends on a combination of schedule, finances and severity of mental health symptoms. Some clients may choose to start coming once a week (or even twice a week if they are working through a current crisis and needing extra support). Others will choose to come every other week starting out. When you are first starting therapy, I recommend not going less often than 2x/month because otherwise it can be difficult to feel like you are gaining any momentum. Oftentimes I recommend coming every week for the first month or two, and then dropping down to every other week for an ongoing basis.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) is an evidenced based practice that helps clients explore and better understand all of the different parts of themselves. IFS is a non-pathologizing approach to identity development and trauma healing. Internal family systems therapy does not mean family therapy. It is the exploration of the internal family within you. Have you ever thought, “There’s a part of me that feels like… or wants this, but there’s another part of me that feels like that” or even felt that there was a disagreement between different thoughts or decisions within you? IFS believes that humans are not just one thing, but that we are created in multiplicity. We are more than one feeling, emotion, thought, etc. Internal Family Systems takes the time to explore the different parts of you offering gratitude and compassion for all the ways your parts have and continue to protect you.
The Internal Family Systems (IFS) model was created in the 1980’s by Richard Schwartz. IFS started as an effective approach to treating eating disorders and over time became a powerful treatment method for addressing a diverse range of symptoms: depression, anxiety, trauma, identity, maladaptive attachment styles, substance abuse, and PTSD.

  • I do not take insurance, but can provide necessary paperwork to submit to insurance companies in order to be partially reimbursed for each session. If you are unsure whether this is an option for you, call the phone number on the back of your insurance card and ask about your plan’s out-of-network benefits.

For clients who are enduring financial hardship, I am happy to discuss sliding scale options. It is my desire to make therapy as accessible for my clients as I can. Please note that I only have a limited number of sliding scale slots at any given time.

  • I get it- you have a lot going on. Between work, sports, school, and other commitments it can feel challenging to find time for therapy. I also understand that teens are busy and extra circulars and school are very important. I have after school availability.

I try to be as flexible as possible. Typically, I see clients between 10am and 7pm during the week.
